Question

How do I reserve/request a book?

Requesting a book allows you to have it held for you at the library desk, or sent to one of the sites for you to pick up.  If the book is checked out to someone else, it will be held for you when the other person returns it, and they will not be allowed to renew it.

Note:  This information is about reserving or requesting library materials.  If you would like information about getting your textbooks, you will need to contact the bookstore.

COVID-19 Note:  At this time, library circulation services are limited to curbside pickup from the main campus's Rothrock Library.  Please see this FAQ for more information about how curbside pickup works.

How do I request or reserve a book?

The "request it" button in the library catalog allows you to ask that a book be held for you at the library desk on the main campus, or sent to one of the sites for you to pick up.  If the book is available, it will be pulled from the shelf and held or shipped the next day that the library is open.  If the book is checked out to someone else, it will be held or shipped when it is returned.  The other person will not be able to renew the book that you have requested.

Great!  How do I do it?

1.  Once you have found the book you want in the library catalog, click the "request it" button.  You can find this button on the results list:

Or on the full record page:

In both images, the button has been circled in green.

2. Log in with your last name and L number.

3.  The request form will appear in a pop-up window:

Use the drop-down menu to select where you would like to pick up the book.  When it's available, the library will let you know, using the contact information in your library account.  if you aren't sure that that information is current, you can put your contact information in the form.

Note that the "I have a deadline" button does not help get your item faster--it simply cancels the request if the item isn't returned by your deadline.

4.  You will be contacted when the book is ready to pick up.
